Half of every wall calendar page is a writing surface, and almost nobody specifies it as one. A high-gloss art stock that makes a cover photograph sing will bead ballpoint ink and let pencil skate off it, and the customer discovers this on the second of January.

This build inverts the priority. The grid half is uncoated or matte-coated stock chosen for pen and pencil, the date squares are oversized so a real appointment fits rather than a single abbreviation, and the whole page is proofed by writing on it — with a biro, a pencil and a marker — before it is signed off.

Ruling matters too: a light rule that guides the eye without competing with the handwriting, weekday letters that stay legible once the square is half full, and weekends distinguished by tone rather than by a colour that vanishes under blue ink.

Workshops, dispatch offices, staff rooms, clinics, farms and family kitchens — anywhere the calendar is a working document.
